The learning curve of yacht brokerage
Jul 26, 2024Last Wednesday I hosted a webinar for folk who are interested in the Yacht Broker Master Class online course.
One of the topics we covered was that it is important to avoid second guessing which yacht clients may want to buy, how much they may be prepared to spend, or what features they may or may not appreciate.
Many a sale has been lost because a broker assumes that his client would not be interested in a particular yacht, and then that very yacht is sold to the client by a different broker!
That is in fact one of the most exciting aspects of yacht brokerage. It’s a roller coaster of a business, and we enjoy the benefits of the journey when it is going in an upwards direction, and learn from our mistakes when it goes downhill. And it can go downhill very rapidly indeed, another topic that was spoken about in the webinar and I go into in far greater depth in the Master Class course.
You need to have an appetite for this kind of business to be successful in it, you need to be able to learn from your experience and bounce back from your failings. You need to constantly learn. Learn about the yachts you are representing, learn from your experience, learn from your colleagues, and never stop learning.
