I have just finished filming a beautiful yacht in the United States and spent some time chatting with the Captain. As he opened up to me I realised that his story was so inspirational that I just had to share it with you. I don’t think even HE realised just how interesting his story was!

At the age of 17 he decided that he wanted to enter the yachting industry. He had heard stories from so many yacht Captains that he craved the lifestyle, the adventure, and the income! With no experience at all he volunteered to help somebody deliver a small sailing catamaran from Johannesburg to the United States. 

52 days and 7000 nautical miles later, an exhausted young man made shore and vowed to never set foot on a yacht again. But he did, and eventually he carved a lucrative career as a yacht Captain. So lucrative in fact that he has recently purchased a 100 acre + chunk of land in the United States and is working to build a luxury holiday resort there. He even owns his own Mountain on the land!

I said to him “ I bet you never thought that you would end up owning a mountain when you stepped on to that catamaran and sailed off into the unknown!”.

From the look on his face I believe that in that moment the penny dropped as he recognised what an amazing thing he had accomplished. I should add that he is still in his early 30s. 

There is a strong lesson for everybody in that story. If you really want to change your life for the better, if you strongly desire to accomplish something extraordinary…you HAVE to step on board that catamaran. You HAVE to be prepared to make changes to your life and to put yourself in a position to accomplish your goals.
