This week I have been filming at a shipyard. 

I was reminded of the exciting opportunities for yacht brokers to sell a new construction vessel. This happens when a client wants to buy a new yacht and you as a broker help them to find the best shipyard for their requirements and then periodically visit the yacht whilst in construction.

Not only does it guarantee great cash flow for you since your commission is usually paid at the same time that stage payments are made on the yacht…that can be over a period of three years by the way…but also there is so much to learn about how yachts are built that can help you to sell brokerage yachts more effectively.

As a part of the video that I am producing, I interviewed a famous yacht designer called Carlo Nuvolari. Listening to him speak about the design process was fascinating and his experience with  new construction projects was very educational.

In the Yacht Broker Master Class there is an entire module about the relationships that you need to build in order to be a successful yacht broker. It is easy to assume that a relationship with your client is the only one that counts, but in truth relationships with yacht designers and yacht builders are also very valuable indeed. The owner of the yacht I filmed explained that he chose this particular shipyard in part because he liked the people at the shipyard, and he liked the designer of the yacht too. He walked away from some of the other shipyards he visited because he found the people there to be obnoxious and arrogant. 

The Yacht Broker Master Class also includes a module about new construction contracts. The contract needed to sell a construction project is very bespoke indeed…quite different to a brokerage yacht.
