Patience is a Virtue

Selling a yacht can happen when you least expect it.

Three years ago I was contacted by a potential buyer, who asked if he could meet me in the Metropole Hotel in Monaco. He was a thoroughly pleasant individual, we chatted for an hour or so, and he told me the kind of yacht he was interested in buying.

Since much of my time is spent developing my YouTube channels, I work closely with a colleague on these kind of enquiries. To his credit, my colleague kept in touch with the client for the next three years in spite of the fact that he seemed to have lost interest.  Then...all of a sudden...the client got back in touch. 

For reasons of his own he had decide that NOW was the right time to buy a yacht, and so we showed him a selection of suitable yachts, travelled to meet him on board in various locations, and I'm delighted to report that his offer on a $20,000,000 superyacht was accepted yesterday. 

If my colleague had assumed that the client was a waste of time, if he had forgotten about him and lost contact, it is unlikely that we would have been in a position to do business with him when his interest revived.

This is not an uncommon story in yacht sales. Qualified clients will sometimes express an interest in buying a yacht and then lie dormant for years before they "pull the trigger".

As a yacht broker you need to be patient, keep watering the seed of interest by occasionally keeping in touch, and you will benefit from this patience in the long run.
