The secret to becoming a successful yacht broker is actually no secret at all. Just be honest! Be transparent! Don't pretend to be somebody you are not!

This week a viewer of my YouTube channel contacted me, they have written to me before a few times because, like you, they want to become a yacht broker. For reasons of their own they have not availed themself of the Yacht Broker Master Class or even attended a free webinar.

A couple of days ago they contacted me because they claimed to have three yachts for sale, each one with a value of over $200,000,000. Whilst it is true that each one of the yachts really is for sale, it is totally UNTRUE that this individual "has them for sale". I know this, because I know the various brokers that represent each one of the yachts - and the individual writing to me is in no way affiliated with them.

My best guess is that the writer had obtained information about the yachts, and believed that this was sufficient to find a buyer for them. He then wrote to everybody on his contact list who could possibly assist in finding a buyer.

This is simple opportunism, it is NOT professional yacht brokering. 

The Yacht Broker Master Class deals with the subject of transparency in  some depth, and the gentleman who wrote to me would have done well to take the course. Trying to mislead colleagues into believing that you have a yacht for sale that is actually represented by somebody else simply damages your reputation and will result in other brokers being mistrustful and reluctant to business with you. 

Be honest, and don't always try to represent yachts with huge price tags. The Master Class goes into great detail about the brokerage commission structure that allows you to make considerable sums of money from the sale of "bread and butter" yachts - for which there is a very healthy market. There is really no need to be overly-ambitious...especially when you are starting out.
