Artificial Intelligence. Putting in the Effort!
Jan 13, 2024Yesterday I nearly threw my laptop out of the window.
I can’t count how many times an ad has been displayed to me on just about every possible social media platform claiming that I could be making tens of thousands of dollars every month by selling AI generated books online. Have you seen that ad too? The claim is that the AI will do all of the work, and I can sit back and watch the money roll in.
Most people will know that money seldom comes without hard work, and whilst new technology such as artificial intelligence can be a great tool…you still have to put effort in to get anything out.
That is especially the case with yacht brokerage, I have seen yacht brokers make large sums of money from being in the right place at the right time, and I have seen yacht brokers have to leave the industry because they did not put the necessary effort in. Life is not always fair as I’m sure you know.
The brokers who consistently make good money though, often even more than the amounts promised by those irritating social media ads, are the brokers who consistently work hard. They work on finding new clients and they work on their existing database. They work on their knowledge of the product, and they work on their relationships with shipyards, they respond quickly to enquiries, and they study market trends so that they can give best advice. They work!
Sure, new technologies such as Artificial Intelligence can increase productivity, and it’s a popular topic of conversation in the yachting industry now as every sector tries to figure out how to use it in the best way. I’m sure that we’ll soon figure out how it can help yacht brokers, but I’m equally sure that it will become another tool in a brokers belt, another tool that they need to learn and to use. I don’t see any time that a broker will be able to sit back, let the AI do the work, and watch the money rolling in.
All of this makes it an incredible time to be a yacht broker. As the technology used to build yachts improves, so does technology that radically improves the sales and marketing of yachts. When I started in the industry in 1994 the internet was still very new, and social media didn’t even exist! Since then, those that have embraced all of these changes have prospered. They have prospered because they worked at it.
You too have incredible opportunities to be a part of the exciting, ever changing, ever improving field of yacht brokerage.
